01The short answer
02Why Saturday, when the week is taken
A child in daycare has their days organised Monday to Friday, and a weekday evening activity means moving everything around. Saturday morning touches none of that: the daycare keeps its role of care and early learning during its hours, and the class is a separate sporting activity, on the weekend, with nothing for the family to change in its week. It is also the time when the parent is there — in the room or close by — which matters at that age, for the child and for you.
03What a Saturday morning looks like
A bow, a warm-up that looks like a game, basics repeated in lines, strikes into a pad held by the instructor, a bow. The hour asks the child to wait, watch, copy and stop at the signal; the first contact is with a pad, not a person. What the programme contains, its own belts and how to tell if your child is ready are on The Petit Samouraï, ages 4 to 6; the order of a kids’ hour, part by part, on What kids’ classes are like.
04The questions families ask
Is the Saturday class a daycare? No: it is a karate class, and the parent picks the child up at the end. Does the daycare take the children to the dojo? No, there is no transport; families organise the trip. Can my child come if they attend a different daycare, or none? Yes: the daycare is not a registration criterion, only age and the slot count. What do you need to bring? Comfortable clothes and a bottle of water; buy nothing before you have seen the class. Does the class suit every child aged 4 to 6? The group is for that age range, but each child reacts in their own way to a new environment: the trial and a word with the instructor say whether it suits them.
05The trip, from your place
Families on Nuns’ Island and in Verdun start from home, from their residence or from elsewhere; the starting point matters for the trip, and no duration is shown here. Type yours, choose your mode, and the map opens with the route to the dojo. Once there: parking is free, you park in the loop in front of the building and follow the Kyokushin signs. Suite 010 is on the lower level; access is by stairs.
06What it costs, and how to try
Current monthly rates, taxes included: $66.15 for the Petit Samouraï. The full grid is on the pricing page, family plans included. The first class is a free trial: you come one Saturday morning, your child watches for a few minutes, then tries, and you see whether they want to come back. Our classes run in both languages, which is why this site exists in four. Saturday is not the only way in: from age 7, the kids programme runs on weekdays — Karate classes for kids in Montreal.
