Getting to the dojo from your part of Nuns’ Island

Type your street, your building or your sector, choose how you are coming, and Google Maps opens with the route to the dojo. This page shows no “typical” travel time: a trip depends on the starting point, the hour and the mode, and the map should say it, not us.

The address is 550 chemin du Golf, suite 010, Nuns’ Island (Verdun), H3E 1A8. Drive into the 550 parking lot, park in the loop in front of the building, then head for the basement entrance: Kyokushin signs mark the way. Suite 010 is on the lower level; access is by stairs. This page says nothing more about accessibility, because nothing more is documented — if the stairs are a question, call before coming. The colour access map is on the dojo’s page.

Pointe-Nord is the eco-neighbourhood at the north end of the island, around the Evolo towers — Evolo, Evolo 2, Evolo S, Evolo X, Evolo NEX — and the REM’s Île-des-Sœurs station, opened on 31 July 2023 between the Bell campus and Place du Commerce. From that sector the form above gives the route on foot, by bike or by car; by transit, it takes into account the STM bus lines that serve the island. Pointe-Sud is the sector at the south end of the island, on the river and golf-course side, with the Symphonia towers (100 rue André-Prévost) and Symphonia Viu. Same principle: your address in the form, your mode, and the map does the rest. The dojo is not located in any residence, is recommended by no building and has no arrangement with any manager: these names are landmarks, nothing more.

Domaine de la Forêt is a sector of houses; the island’s other well-known complexes — Les Verrières sur le Fleuve, Club Marin, Val de l’Anse, Les Sommets sur le Fleuve, Vistal, Zuni, Les Jardins des Vosges, Domaine de la Pointe — are all starting points the form accepts as they are. This list is not a ranking and says nothing about who trains at the dojo: it is there so you can find yourself in it. If your building is not on it, simply type its street.

People also come to the dojo from off the island. The form above accepts any address; here are the landmarks for each neighbouring area. No duration is given here: the map calculates it, depending on the time and the mode.

Verdun. Nuns' Island is part of the borough of Verdun. On the mainland, the green metro line stops there, including at Verdun and De l'Église stations; the riverside path (piste des Berges) runs along the St. Lawrence, and the urban beach sits behind the Auditorium. By public transit, choose that mode in the form: the map calculates the route.

Le Sud-Ouest. Griffintown and Pointe-Saint-Charles are part of the borough of Le Sud-Ouest, crossed by the Lachine Canal path. By bike or by car, the form maps the way to the island.

Downtown. The REM links Gare Centrale to Île-des-Sœurs station, in service since July 31, 2023. A class on your way home from the office: the adult evening classes are on the schedule.

Brossard and the South Shore. The REM starts at Brossard station and stops at Du Quartier and Panama before Île-des-Sœurs. On foot or by bike, the Samuel-De Champlain Bridge multi-use path, open all year, links Brossard to the island.

You may already know the people in your building, its gym or your professional network. An activity followed somewhere else is a simple way to cross paths, week after week, with residents of other parts of the island: at the dojo, conversation starts around a movement to learn or a practical question. Karate does not guarantee new friendships; it gives a fixed appointment, a shared goal and a setting where people learn together. Do you need to know someone to start? No: the trial class is there to see the group, the schedule and the atmosphere. Is the dojo reserved for the residents of one building? No. Can you come only to meet people? The aim remains learning karate; the meeting happens around the practice, not instead of it.

Children train from age 4 to 13, adults from 14, five days a week: the schedule gives the groups and times, the pricing page the monthly and family rates.
