An activity after work, near Pointe-Nord: karate on Nuns’ Island

You work at the Bell campus in Pointe-Nord or in another part of Nuns’ Island? The KarateIDS dojo offers a local activity to discover after work or on the weekend, according to the available schedule. Check the calendar and the route to 550 chemin du Golf, suite 010.

01The short answer

The dojo is not on the Bell campus and has no arrangement with Bell: it is at 550 chemin du Golf, suite 010, on Nuns’ Island, and it is open to anyone who works or lives on the island, with no professional affiliation. Adult classes, from age 14, run at fixed hours five days a week: the schedule says which ones fall after the office or on the weekend, not this page. The first class is free, there is nothing to buy beforehand, and parking is free too.

02Before heading home, after work or on the weekend

A day at a Pointe-Nord office can leave you wanting to move before going home. Karate offers a structured appointment: stances, footwork and techniques to learn, in a group where everyone progresses at their own pace. If an evening class suits your week better, choose the slot that actually exists rather than trying to squeeze a session into the lunch break — this page promises no lunchtime class, and will only ever do so if the published schedule shows one. 03The Bell campus, as a landmark

The Bell campus is a cluster of five buildings at the north end of the island, at the Autoroute 10 and 15 interchange, at 1 carrefour Alexander-Graham-Bell; the REM’s Île-des-Sœurs station, opened on 31 July 2023, sits between the campus and Place du Commerce, in the Pointe-Nord eco-neighbourhood. It serves here as a neighbourhood landmark, as a residence would — nothing more. KarateIDS is not a Bell supplier, a campus activity, an employee benefit or a sponsored or in-house class, and this page does not say that Bell employees come to the dojo.

04What an hour at the dojo contains

After a day sitting down, an hour at the dojo is spent standing, barefoot, and it is written down in advance. In the WKO Shinkyokushinkai first-year textbook, an examination covers kihon, ido geiko, kata, conditioning (knuckle push-ups, jumping squats), flexibility and kumite. Six subjects in the same hour, graded by belt: conditioning and flexibility are part of the curriculum, not something added on the side. Ten kyu lead to the black belt — Kyokushin karate belts gives the order — and progress is measured neither by the clock nor by a ranking: you move forward against yourself, at your own pace.

05Do you need to know karate already?

No. What an adult beginner needs is enough health to take part and a willingness to be a beginner for a while; no prior fitness, no flexibility, no experience of another martial art. Adult beginner karate classes in Montreal says what it asks, and what it does not. For the first class, comfortable clothes and a bottle of water are enough — what to bring to your first class has the list; the karategi is bought only once the decision is made. Our classes run in both languages, which is why this site exists in four.

06Coming with a colleague?

Yes, as two people coming to try, each registered for themselves: this is not a corporate activity, and there is no offer for the employees of any particular employer. Is there an offer for Bell employees? No — and nothing will be announced here without a real offer and Bell’s agreement.

07The route and the access

Type your starting point — carrefour Alexander-Graham-Bell, your Pointe-Nord street, or anywhere else — choose your mode, and Google Maps opens with the route to the dojo. No duration is shown here: it depends on the hour, the mode and the starting point. Once there: drive into the 550 parking lot, park in the loop in front of the building, follow the Kyokushin signs to the basement entrance. Suite 010 is on the lower level; access is by stairs.
